3DS takes pride in using innovative new methods and technologies in the mapping industry. Photogrammetry and LiDAR are two good examples of the new methods we have integrated into our collective skillset. PHOTOGRAMMETRY How does photogrammetry work? Photogrammetry is a photographic technique which gives measurements of the land from photographs taken from the air. Through a series of precise mathematical calculations, the photographs can be analyzed by computer to produce extremely accurate maps and measurements. Our experience with Photogrammetry
In 2003, with the expansion of acquiring Southeast Geomatics, we increased our ability to provide Photogrammetry
services in the Southeast. 3DS has personnel who
have participated on many Photogrammetry mapping projects, including
GDOT road projects since the early 1990's. Our personnel have
participated in mapping for the City of Atlanta drainage basins,
land development projects, ALTA surveys and many other types of
mapping and transportation projects. Projects are executed on first
order photogrammetric equipment made by Ziess and software by
Intergraph. Deliverables are provided in CAiCE, MicroStation,
AutoCAD, DXF and Arcinfo. LiDAR Mapping (Helicopter, Fixed Wing) LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging, and is also known as Airborne Laser Swath Mapping (ALSM) or laser altimetry. LiDAR is an optical remote sensing technology which uses an airborne scanning laser to produce detailed topographic surveys. LiDAR can accurately measure the topography of the ground, even where overlying vegetation is quite dense. LiDAR uses a laser pulse to determine distances by measuring the time delay between its transmission and reflection. This same technology has been used to create maps of Mars, the Grand Canyon, and the ocean floor. Shown below are some of the images we have obtained through LiDAR imaging.
